About us

Hi! Let us introduce ourselves and our blog!

Journey to Journal will be filled with travel anecdotes, funny stories, tales of mishap, packing lists, travel tips, and observations about life. Well, that’s all in my head anyway. In reality it will probably comprise of an occasional travel story, published at random intervals, which readers may or may not find entertaining!

I’m Louise and have worked in education, mainly as a Japanese teacher. My husband Tom was a boilermaker by trade. Tom’s the storyteller, and I’m the organiser. We love to travel.

I’ll plan, make lists, research places and events for months in advance. Tom gets to carry the heavy luggage and drive (while I navigate, of course). Throughout the trip, I’ll make notes to then write up in my travel journal. The joy of the adventure continues after the actual trip as I produce a scrapbook album with snapshots, snippets and stories, which are often shared with family and friends.

Travel Scrapbooks … time to come into the digital age??

It’s time to try to bring some of those snapshots, snippets and stories into the digital world. Part of my uni degree years ago was in IT, but I’m not sure being proficient in COBOL programming will really be any use as I come to terms with today’s blogging. So, we’ll begin with the basic blog and see how it goes!

We hope you enjoy some of our stories!

  1. Like you, I write journal notes on our travels, with the intent of writing a hopefully interesting account of our experiences, complete with photos – as you are doing. I came across a wonderful quote to describe the beauty and joy of the unexpected – “All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveller is unaware” – Martin Buber, philosopher. You might like to use it, or the philosophy, in your writings.
